bespoken bike commute

That moment you realize your commute to work is your favorite part of the day.

And a photo reflecting that I'm not alone.

BTW - I'm wearing my custom-made B. Spoke Tailor knickers and kitty cat knee socks!

some b. spoken evening

Oh, a while back (but not too far back), B. Spoke Tailor threw a fab knicker fitting/holiday party at Mojo Bicycle Cafe on Divisadero to try on some of Nan's sweet designs. I quite like this red plaid women's suit...

... and these tartan gloves!

I persuaded Carlos to try on some of Nan's cool threads. So he went all out for the reflective suit.

Now don't we make a cute couple?

And how do those knickers fit anyway? Well, you can ask David.

Navy blue with red pinstripes. So stylin'. And his gray armwarmers are made from repurposed second hand cashmere sweaters.

What a fun night - getting together with cycle chic-istas for some holiday cheer.

Whatever fashion fits your fancy--plaid, tweed, psychedelic or mod--always choose style over speed.

My own bike wardrobe remix

SF Bike Expo fashion show

In the spirit of Bike Wardrobe Remix I figured I would showcase this look from the Bike Expo fashion show next seeing as half the items are from my wardrobe:)

Miss Kati is looking ever so sassy in:

re-purposed B. Spoke Tailor Knickers. They are created from thrift store wool pants and redesigned for cycling with an added gusset, side cell phone pocket and knee tabs. These are a great option for someone on a tight budget AND you can have them custom made for you!

She is wearing a super visible yellow Rickshaw bag
A silver sparkle Nutcase helmet (which I now own and love)
The cowboy boots, Nooworks butterfly bicycle man T-shirt , and scarf are from my closet.

She is riding a really beautiful Klara bike available at My Dutch Bikes.

Hanan is turning heads and staying dry and warm at the same time.
She is wearing a Nau Urbane jacket which is wind and water proof but the subtle details make it totally fashionable!

Ride SFO Bike Expo

Lilia and I attended the inaugural Bike Expo hosted by Ride SFO recently. I picked up a few accessories and the Twins shopped for fixies. We all test rode a few wheels, but didn't take any home.

We were all impressed by the dudes doing jumps in the freestyle zone.

And by how cute patience can be.

Some of the vendors were selling some hot styles, notably, B. Spoke Tailor. The owner makes custom knickers for men and women in a variety of fabrics, as well as raincoats and vest packs.

We were all mesmerized by these lights for your spokes made by Monkey Lectric, which reminded me a bit of Burning Man.

cute as a cupcake

Lilia and I participated in the Bike Kitchen's Tour de Cupcake alley cat race/fundraising event, along with about 2,000 others. She and I both snapped some photos, so stay tuned for Lilia's spin on the TDC!

All types of racers on all types of bikes turned out, from pretty girls with great hair to guys in cut-off knickers.
Here's VV editor Lilia with Danielle, both decked out in cycling's finest ready to blast off.

Because of the overwhelming turnout, I had time to check out the other racers styles, like this very classy, mod looking girl and guy in typical SF hoodie.

Once we were finally off, I was more focused on eating cupcakes than what people were wearing, but by the time we were up and over States Street and in the Panhandle, I was able to gather my wits again.

This woman has some hot sleeves.

And this kid wins the prize for the best-dressed man in the race.

And finally, as we've pointed out before, it's always a great idea to match your clothing to your ride, like this woman with aqua tennis shoes and Bianchi.

one great look

There's fashion and then there's bicycle fashion. Lilia and I have discussed how riding a bicycle often informs what we choose to wear on any given day. Of course, it is our opinion that you can really wear anything on your bicycle, but some outfits simply work better than others. Case in point: I can't get enough of this woman's cappuccino colored pinstriped knickers, with purple halter top and brown leather pumps. And check out her calf muscles!

This is a look that is not only practical for cycling, but more importantly shows off her finest features. And honestly, if you've got it, flaunt it.

pataphysical fashionista

This is Eric.
I ran into him on Gate Five Road in Sausalito on Bastille Day. On his business card, he describes himself as a pataphysicist. In his case, I believe the clothes make the man (or does the man make the clothes?). At his suggestion, I snapped this photo of him in front of an outhouse.

His bejeweled friend Joui is also quite fashionable on her bicycle in her blue vest, grey blazer, knickers and boots, but even she admitted that Eric really takes the cake on the catwalk.

They were both riding off to an event at the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce. Eric and Joui are living pataphors for Vélo Vogue.
