ladies' night

Hello my dear readers! Your good ol' KT is suffering a horrible, terrible, no-good, very bad week. I'm super low on sleep and energy. So, instead of writing much about these fine ladies of the night, I'll let you just gawk at their two-wheeled beauty.

En rouge et blanc... like her bike!

[Lydia was VV's first personal profile! Great to see you here again!]

the his and hers of cycle chic

A couple cyclists in this bunch caught my eye one morning commute (as a matter of fact, hats off to all of them)!
market street fashion

His: Dark denim jeans, plaid cotton shirt, fire engine red socks, polished brown leather dress shoes (and cutie in a hat in front of him).
cute boy red socks

But really, it's all about the socks.

Hers: Flowing, layered skirt in shades of violet with cool helmet and black pumps.
great flowy skirt

That's the way we do it!

the shoe is part of the outfit!

The best thing about rolling up a pant leg and getting on your bike is that you get to show off your shoes.

And socks! (When was the last time someone noticed your cute argyle socks?)

F would be for Fluevog.

Whatever your footwear fancy, be sure to flaunt it!

breezy|sexy|cool

This beautiful blonde with her flowy, breezy off-white poncho looks like she could be right off the streets of Copenhagen. We alternated places on the bike lane until Duboce Park, and all the while I was quite mesmerized by the way her poncho floated gracefully in the tailwind.

The Loveliest Cyclist at Saint-Eustache

Last summer, I was eating pizza outside Église Saint-Eustache at Les Halles with my friend Tina when this woman rode up. I knew instantly that she was the loveliest cyclist I would see (except for my friends of course).

She appeared to be meeting her boyfriend/husband/lover/male friend at this very spot. We paparazzied her extensively. She didn't seem to notice. He seemed to think that was a perfectly reasonable reaction to her presence.

Notice the lovely vintage bike with fenders and basket, the classic gray dress and pink pumps.

I'm glad it rained so much in San Francisco this February because we need it. However, I'll be honest with you: it's slowed me down. I don't go outside as much, and similarly, neither do many of our fellow cyclists.

But every challenge is an opportunity. You are finally going to see my photos from Paris last summer including my inside tour of the Velib program.

shades of grey

I felt like I was watching an old Italian black and white film when this stylish cyclist pulled to stop in front of me at Market and Van Ness, her grey pumps scratching the surface of the curb. Sometimes winter weather makes you dress in dark and neutral tones, even in sunny California.

one great look

There's fashion and then there's bicycle fashion. Lilia and I have discussed how riding a bicycle often informs what we choose to wear on any given day. Of course, it is our opinion that you can really wear anything on your bicycle, but some outfits simply work better than others. Case in point: I can't get enough of this woman's cappuccino colored pinstriped knickers, with purple halter top and brown leather pumps. And check out her calf muscles!

This is a look that is not only practical for cycling, but more importantly shows off her finest features. And honestly, if you've got it, flaunt it.

Cycle Chic Pali-style

KT and I were discussing VV chez moi the other day while surfing the net when I noticed the new Cycle Chic banner for the first time. It reminded me of this photo I recently snapped at the Palo Alto Caltrain station.
If you've read our blog before, you know that I am a bike/train commuter to the Valley. If you've done that before, you know that the Palo Alto Caltrain station has more bikes than anyone knows how to store. They have a bike station, racks and lockers and still there are bikes chained to every pole and tree in sight. Meanwhile, cyclists are also frequently getting bumped from the train because there isn't enough room for them all on the train. Is the solution just more of everything? A bike share program? What do you think?
