le train + le vélo = l'amour

going to the chapel panda
I went to a wedding in Davis a few weekends ago. It was lovely, and just about as lovely as the ceremony was the ease of getting to and from Davis from San Francisco by Amtrak. I biked to the Ferry Terminal to pick up the bus that took me to Emeryville to catch the Capitol Corridor.

I brought my folding bike because I thought it would be practical, but it turns out you can really bring any kind of bike on Amtrak and hang it on these designated bike racks.

I hate wearing heels period, so I changed from my Chucks to my dress-up shoes once I got to Davis.

My hotel was 2 blocks from the train station. I stayed at the Hallmark Inn in downtown Davis. Again, I thought bringing my own bike to Davis was so practical, but it turns out that the Hallmark has a whole fleet of Globe bikes for their guests to cruise around bike-friendly Davis.

I fit everything I needed for the weekend getaway in my Basil panniers.

The Latte likes being a tourist!

And if you haven't had enough video of KT riding around in SF, here ya go (sans vuvuzela)!

stingray slugger

If I were to get another bike, it would be one just like these:

baseball season awaits 1

And the addition of a Louisville Slugger simply reminds me that baseball season awaits...

Bicycle Music Festival Part 3: All The Single Ladies

The festival was chock full of freewheelin' golden girls.

The spirit of the ride gave me that feeling of days gone by. This woman reminds me of a kind of hippie-chick you might have seen in the Haight-Ashbury hey day.

The staff got to wear these cute flags indicating the role they played at the festival. I'm sure many of our readers will find this woman quite yummy.

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't mind having the word "Manager" plastered across my ass.

But more than that, I was jealous of her fantastic grey and black arm warmers and floppy hat.

Riding with the band certainly brought smiles to many faces.

of moms and dads

An SF supermum in her classic tie-dye leggings shows her girls how it's done!

And I must admit that I had my eye on this hot daddi-o with that cute smile, cap and Chucks...

until I saw him consoling/encouraging/congratulating his daughter who was apparently learning to ride on two wheels in the Panhandle.

Way to go Moms and Dads!

labels

Some people wear YSL, some wear RL, some wear DKNY, some wear CK, and the list goes on. This cyclist, par contre, has her own signature style with a monogrammed purple messenger bag, initials AW. Anyone know her? Super cute look with the black mini, black leggings, black Chucks and white crash helmet.

sooooo California girls

Every town has a pervading look, and these chicks on their bikes are showing it off.

I think 45% of angelenas wear flip flops, 45% wear Chucks, and the remaining 10% wear odd footwear like Uggs (why? WHY?!?).

Big sunglasses go nicely with big smiles.

How can you not be happy riding around in the So-Cal sunshine?

spoketastic

I was having a beer with my pal Holly (and occasional VV contributor) at the Waterfront Cafe in Venice Beach when this angelena rolled up next to us on her fantastic chopper with the coolest spokes I've ever seen.

And then, navigating through pedestrians and past street vendors, tippy toes of her purple Chucks brushing the pavement, she was off as quickly as she arrived.

Vive la différence!

Paris isn't always about that classic look. It's a city whose residents also take risks with fashion. Here are some Parisians on the cutting edge of cycle-style.

Blue man with do rag:
In her Chuck Taylor All Stars, she casually paused for a telephone call:
After-work texts with a hip Freitag messenger style bag (or shall I say European man's carry-all):
This guy was the closest thing to a San Franciscan that I saw in Paris, with his purple and yellow fixie, rolled-up pant leg and hat:

Meet the Twins Brothers, two dj's who live in the banlieue and frequently ride around Paris on their VTT's wearing hoodies and helmets (They told me they wear helmets to stand out among all the Parisians who don't). The Twins are coming soon to SF for a show at the End Up!

old-timer

Young and old were off to the Haight-Ashbury Street Fair like this old-timer en bicyclette with suspenders, Chuck Taylors and a ten-gallon hat!

pencil skirt

One of the benefits of riding a bicycle with a women's or step-through frame is that you can wear a pencil skirt with it, as shown here, creatively paired with some eccentric hi tops.

boys with hats

This is Isaac:

I met him on the corner of 3rd and Folsom, and I stopped to compliment him on his short distressed denim coat (not just a jean jacket). Nice fashion choice, Isaac! His bicycle is also incredibly cute. Isaac also dons a matching blue cap.

I think the word for men in hats would be dapper (in my humble opinion). But it has to be the right hat for the man. For example:

This fellow in plaid shirt and black hat and matching black hi-tops on 16th and Guerrero, and...

this young chap dressing up his sporty look with a brown hat seen on Bryant and 16th.
