SEIL bag - style and safety

SEIL bag by Lee Myung Su design lab from Ben on Vimeo.

SEIL stands for Safe Enjoy Interact Light! It's also super happy fun, for sure!

Anything that makes cyclists feel safer, improves visibility and makes signaling easier is a fine idea. Just don't forget that people in front of you might also be interested in which direction you're heading.

Addendum: The bag doesn't seem to be for sale yet. The one featured in the video is a prototype.

20th and Capp

Years ago, this little intersection was a hub for a rather unsightly form of entertainment. The city renovated the adjacent park and put a community garden there to increase the community's feeling of connection to public space. However, gentrification is probably more the reason for the spot's shift.

Capp is a great little street to ride your bike down. It isn't an official bike route, but it's very close to Mission, quiet, straight, flat and the pavement is pretty good. Perfect San Francisco Victorians line a good bit of it. I saw a couple Voguers here recently, but what I like most about those photos is how much they look like San Francisco as opposed to any other city.

Here, she rides with green skirt flowing in the wind, boots and shoulder bag below a row of Victorians at various levels of "improved."

This guy rode in a blue dress shirt and slacks, baseball cap and backpack.

Of course, I wish he wouldn't ride on the sidewalk.

green citizens

This is how green citizens roll! For a cleaner environment, ride a bike!

rastaman

One of the huge advantages of riding a bike to go shopping in Union Square is that you can pull up in front of any store or street vendor without having to look for and pay for parking! Other advantages are that you are contributing to a better society and living a healthy lifestyle.

And if you have long sexy dreadlocks like this man in orange here, why not let them sway freely in the wind as you leave all those cars in gridlock in the dust?

summer look|winter boots

I was behind this cute chyck all the way down Market Street and then again all the way down Sansome Street a couple weeks ago. I couldn't believe the way she was dressed. Everyone else was freezing cold (I think I was bundled up with gloves, scarf and wool coat) and she was wearing rolled up jeans and a cute girly t-shirt. The guy behind her had a totally rad backpack.

She was pretty speedy, and had the awesome Nutcase helmet just for the purpose of zipping around the SF streets.

Finally at a red light I got a chance to check out her fuzzy brown leather winter boots, and those pretty striped socks peeking out from the top.

Otherwise, just looking at her bare arms was giving me the shivers. Hot or cold, she was by all means super-fab.

you got the silver

I get warm fuzzies every time I see friends riding together and chatting at stoplights. I get all happy when I see shiny things too, like this girl's silver backpack, that sparkled in the luminance of the front headlights of the car behind her.

baseball season cometh

This guy's NY Mets cap and sporty look (and the warm springy weather we've recently experienced in SF) reminded me that spring training and baseball season is right around the corner.

night moves

Gorgeous women on bicycles can be seen riding around SF at night! Strangely enough, however, I saw all these women on the same street corner (Market and Octavia), albeit on three separate evenings.

This one was riding home on a hot night in a mini-dress, tights and boots.

I was quite taken with her adorable shoulder bag and the appliqué on the back of her jacket.

Finally, I'm always impressed when I see a woman riding in a long skirt. She looked irresistible in red. Cute backpack too!

the art of waiting at a red light

Zackaliciousness often writes about the art of waiting at a red light in Copenhagen. So does Léah from Paris.

So now, we offer you San Francisco's twist on this art. I often see cyclists balancing on their tippy toes, their bottoms resting gently on their saddles, arms casually leaning on handlebars, not in any big hurry, deep in thought, while watching the cars whiz by.

Sometimes they do the one-foot balancing act.

And sometimes they aren't waiting for a light to change at all, but a Muni train to pass by.
By the way, I'll be travelling in Europe until the 15th of this month, but you can track me on twitter (I'm ktieche).

doggie style

We've seen dogs in baskets, dogs in messenger bags, dogs in backpacks and dogs on leashes. Here's a backpack that gives new meaning to doggie bag. I imagine the pups rather enjoy the ride, and you can bring your best friend wherever you go!
