i don't take it for granted

I was born at the corner of Geary and 6th Avenue in San Francisco. I grew up in the town of Mill Valley, at the foot of Mt. Tamalpais. When I got my independence, I moved around a bit, but eventually, I came back to from whence I came.

I don't take my life, or my luck of geography, for granted. Not one day.

That I get to call this place "home" seems surreal.

KT_contemplatingview

It never gets old, no matter how many times in your life you revisit it. It's fresh. It's inspiring. It's...

so close.

So I thank God, The Universe, Allah, Gaia, Krishna for letting me be born here, and letting me EXPERIENCE life whenever I feel the need.

Happy Day of Love Everlasting to All

Today, judy b. and I took a ride to the Castro to celebrate the failure of DOMA and the legalization of gay marriage in California.

A couple Giants fans en bici! They asked me the way to bike parking, so I gather it was their inaugural ride to the game! I hope to run into these two zealots of the Orange & Black again at a game soon.

And man, my boys need some help... still a lot of baseball left. #notpanicking

why i ride a bike - reason #3 - keeps you in shape!

A picture is worth a thousand words...

IMG_9181

Even if you're just riding for transportation, you are getting a workout. My commute to and from work gets my blood pumping for at least 60 minutes/5 days a week. And when you go out on weekends, you burn off a little of your evening's indulgences on your way back home.

Biking gives you some basic fitness that you won't get by driving a car or taking the bus. Just remember, you won't have calves like this by sitting on your ass.

However far you want to push it is purely up to you.

why i ride a bike - reason # 2 - it's fun!

Whether you are taking part in a group social ride, like last weekend's Clitoral Mass...

IMG_9156

or simply going from point A to point B...

IMG_9012

or out taking a joy ride...

IMG_9092

taking your bike there proves that getting there is half the fun!

IMG_9013

IMG_9175

You see, when you choose to ride a bike for transportation or recreation, you can ride with your friends...

IMG_9174

IMG_9149

or you might just run into pals in the bike lane...

or make new friends!

IMG_9153

And thanks to social media, you connect with friends around the world who love their bikes as much as you do.

IMG_7770

What's more, riding your bike is not just a great way to have fun with friends.

IMG_8208

The exhilaration you feel also transports you back to being a kid again.

So what are you waiting for? It's time to enjoy your summer!

And if you're not convinced yet, here are some more reasons to ride your bike, from Iva Jean.
