or out taking a joy ride...

You see, when you choose to ride a bike for transportation or recreation, you can ride with your friends...

or make new friends!

And thanks to social media, you connect with friends around the world who love their bikes as much as you do.

bike date with le rouge et noir + bike party!

Not ready for prime time self timed shot
A couple weeks ago, I attended the most incredible performance by the Lyonnaise acrobatic dance troupe A.K.Y.S. at the San Francisco International Arts Festival at Fort Mason. I was so inspired by the performance - a combination of acrobatics, dance and circus arts on the theme of alienation in the workplace - that I had to see it a second time the very next day. I dressed up and le Rouge et Noir took me out on a date. When I got to Fort Mason, the light and scenery were so beautiful that I had to set up a self-timed shot, that I wasn't ready for, but love nonetheless. I'm quite fond of my asymetrical striped tube-top dress that I found at the Goodwill.

Le Rouge et Noir est Golden
After the show, my bike and I caught the sun setting over the Golden Gate Bridge. L'amour à vélo.

Flashdance Replacement Ride
We were actually on our way to meet Deep's FlashDance, which turned out to be canceled, so we ended up doing a fun group ride instead. I got to meet some very nice bikey folks for the first time, like Jeremy, Kimberly and Sacha!

Ride of Silence Route

During bike awareness month it's important to remind ourselves that sharing the road can be a dangerous game and safety should always come first, followed very closely by lots of fun. Join us tomorrow for the international Ride of Silence, the San Francisco contingent leaving from Justin Herman Plaza at 7pm sharp! We'll be honoring cyclists killed or injured on the road and will be drawing attention to our cause for safe roadways. We'll be taking a route through the city that was planned partially using information from the MTA's 2008 Bicycle Collision Report. We'll be visiting memorial sites and the city's most dangerous intersections and we will be riding slowly and silently out of respect for those who have fallen. Wear white for visibility and to represent the spirits of those we are honoring, mourning attire, or safety gear. Bring candles, flowers, photos, ghost bikes. Don't forget your lights!

Guest Photo: Eva/Evoluer & Cycle Chic Sundays

Cycle Chic Sunday's

Eva, founder of the totally cool blog Evoluer and one of our readers, told me about how she and a group of stylish SoCal ladies have put together a group ride called Cycle Chic Sundays. Here are some pics from the event:

Yowza! A group like that is bound to stop traffic!

Here's what Eva had to say about the ride:

Sunday April 25th marked the first official Cycle Chic Sundays ride. We went on a casual 8 mile loop through Costa Mesa & Santa Ana. We took a lunch break at The CAMP where there were several Earth Day festivities happening. Everyone had a really good time and we are looking forward to continuing Cycle Chic Sundays every weekend!

Looks like you ladies had lots of fun, some great weather and lotsa style! Ride on!
