vélo en famille

I recently ran into my neighbor, Meg Lynch, the founder and former owner of my neighborhood haunt Velo Rouge Café. A few years ago, she sold her business to pursue some personal projects.

ella meg adam

Namely her husband Adam and daughter Ella.

And how about this tri-tandem with a big girl seat for Ella when she gets a little bigger!? For now, that head rest for naptime along the ride is ingenious.

Hip hip hooray to another two-wheeled young lady growing up riding the streets of San Francisco with confidence!

Ride on!

Tandem with CB!

cb is one of our regular readers and she submitted these wonderful photos of tandem bike dates with her hubby via our flickr photo pool. Take it away cb! (all words and images by cb)

recently the mister and i got our very first tandem, a gottfried french tandem to be exact. we named him gilbert. he is a beautiful grayish blue with accents of red in white...we joke about dressing up in french style clothing and riding around town.

riding a tandem is a very unique experience, really unlike any other i have come across. the tandem must act as a team...almost everything we do must be in unison. the captain, who is the person in the front controls the brakes, shifting, & steering and the stoker (that's me) is the person in the back. the stoker is the engine and sets the speed of the ride. if we don't act as a we can seriously hurt one another & the bike. we are getting the hang of it each time we ride and it becomes more fun each time!

this is our 3rd ride out on gilbert to the farmers market. gilbert is pimped out with our swift industries panniers!

[Christy Bockheim Meuzelaar]: Wedding on 2 Wheels

Un mariage en vélo! Congrats to Christy and hubby and good luck on the many paths you will explore together! Thanks for sharing these images and commentary with us!

I've been a fan of your blog for a while, and wanted to share some photos with your readers of our bicycle-themed wedding over the weekend.

Our invitations and programs featured a tandem bike drawn by my sister, our cupcake stand was shaped like a bicycle, and after the ceremony we rode off on a tandem bike!

It was a big hit - even my nieces wanted to try it out!

Parisien Children a velo

While in Paris last summer, I took these photos of people riding with their children.

This woman merits VV on her own.

These kids are a bit on the sporty side, but I loved seeing the whole family ride together. I think they're American expats. What do you think?

Low Carbon Dating etc.

The Chronicle published an article earlier this week on low-carbon dating with a bunch of suggestions on how to meet your match on two wheels. We hope it's worked for you, but if it hasn't yet, they'll tell you how to help it along.

We attended the SFBC's Love on Wheels event again last Friday night. We should shortly be able to share photo booth photos by one of our favorite contributors, Dustin.

The main attraction at the event is a '70s-style dating game where one person chooses between 3 people of the gender they're attracted to. The Chronicle article talks about renting a tandem which I found to be an excellent way to ride together when you naturally tend towards different speeds, but one of the Love on Wheels contestants called it a cliche. Sigh. I guess we can't all run around with sappy romantic hearts -- nothing would ever get done.

Yours truly is #1 in this photo from 2006.
