one less car on market street

onelesscar2
This holiday season I am celebrating with many other SFers the awesome changes to our city streets, thanks to the amazing efforts from bike advocates and the cooperation of the powers-that-be!

How refreshing to cruise down several blocks on Market Street without having to fight for space with cars, and hello! Our first separated bike lane!!!

What a way to roll in the holiday season!

my new boyfriend

new boyfriend
Well, he could have been, if Adrienne and Mikael hadn't told me that I was carelessly riding down a path that had clearly been marked NO BICYCLES. What up with that? Clearly when there are hot dudes riding around, I heed no warning signs.

He told me before we parted our ways that he just moved to SF from Chicago. Welcome, newcomer! See you on the bike lanes... or off!

you can bring a pitt to water

But you can't make him drink!

One of the final pics of my series of posts from Vancouver. I've got one or two more, but it looks like I'm due for another trip up north.

sometimes I can be such a cliché

OK... so... every once in a while, I can be seen on my vintage 10-speed wearing a hoodie, sneakers and one pant leg rolled up.

This doesn't happen very often, so my pal Marisol snapped this pic as evidence.

Don't hate because I'm typical. ;-)

i love haighters part deux

I live in NoPa (as some SFers call it), but hang out a lot in the Haight (Upper and Lower) on the other side of the Panhandle. This photo conveys that gritty, punk feeling of one of the great SF neighborhoods, with this girl in a striped pencil skirt casually riding by on her bike.

rastaman

One of the huge advantages of riding a bike to go shopping in Union Square is that you can pull up in front of any store or street vendor without having to look for and pay for parking! Other advantages are that you are contributing to a better society and living a healthy lifestyle.

And if you have long sexy dreadlocks like this man in orange here, why not let them sway freely in the wind as you leave all those cars in gridlock in the dust?

Hey, Pal!

These kids were hollering up to their pal's window one morning. White socks not withstanding, they looked pretty cool in mostly black. I was particularly taken with her red skirt.

Their pal saw me from the window. "A person over there is taking your picture," she yelled to them below. I waved, and she waved back.

mission rain... again still

These two were riding on a rainy day in the Mission. I was impressed with her skirt mostly.

They clearly know one of the great secrets to getting around SF -- every bus stop has a map of the entire city!

Only after they rode away did I notice his cool arty hoodie.

cute as a cupcake

Lilia and I participated in the Bike Kitchen's Tour de Cupcake alley cat race/fundraising event, along with about 2,000 others. She and I both snapped some photos, so stay tuned for Lilia's spin on the TDC!

All types of racers on all types of bikes turned out, from pretty girls with great hair to guys in cut-off knickers.
Here's VV editor Lilia with Danielle, both decked out in cycling's finest ready to blast off.

Because of the overwhelming turnout, I had time to check out the other racers styles, like this very classy, mod looking girl and guy in typical SF hoodie.

Once we were finally off, I was more focused on eating cupcakes than what people were wearing, but by the time we were up and over States Street and in the Panhandle, I was able to gather my wits again.

This woman has some hot sleeves.

And this kid wins the prize for the best-dressed man in the race.

And finally, as we've pointed out before, it's always a great idea to match your clothing to your ride, like this woman with aqua tennis shoes and Bianchi.

Parisian cyclists are rolling out the red!

Walking her bike across the street in Saint Michel with her friends after work

Casual cut-off jeans with espadrilles
Gorgeous layered look with this long-sleeved mini-dress with tights and matching purse in her Vélib's basket
Matching flats and shirt with her red bike on the designated bike lane on Boulevard de la Bastille
Red hoodie with daisy-patterned miniskirt and black hi-top sneakers

Black Suede Boots

She said: why are you taking my picture?
I replied: because you're biking in black suede boots... for my bike fashion blog.
Her: you better not say anything bad about them.

xtra fun!

Amid the commuters one weekday morning, this urban mom was out for a morning spin with her kids, wearing flats and skinny jeans. Looks like the little boy is having extra fun on the xtracycle!

The two little ones look like vogueurs in training--he in a skull-patterned hoodie, she in a flowing red and white heart-patterned skirt and pink clogs.

Here's another urban mom with her son wearing a robot t-shirt on a three-wheeled scooter.

That's it! Show by example how fun and safe two-wheeling (or three-wheeling) can be, by cycling in the city with the kiddies!

Brown Tights

I saw this couple one Tuesday morning. Their look is typical SF bike punk, with the hoodies and all, but I liked her brown tights under short cutoff shorts, fashionable sunglasses, and dainty shoes.
I also liked it that they seemed happy I was taking their photo....

Hippie Hill

Who knew that Hippie Hill would be a regular bastion of Vélo Voguers on a Sunday afternoon.

red hoodie riding

Our Copenhagen counterparts recently blogged about Red Riding Hood, and so I thought it a propos to then post this shot I took of a girl riding in the infamous SF hipster neighborhood of the Mission. Lilia and I recently discussed what is the San Francisco cycle-style. Clearly we differ from the sophistication of the European cyclists we see riding in Copenhagen and London. However, SF has a style all its own. This hipster chick in her red hoodie sweatshirt, skinny jeans and Converse hi-tops, speeding down 16th Street on her orange fixie, chatting on her cellie, personifies that street style, and represents a major part of the SF cycling community.
