henna and hair and bikes and friends

I got this henna tattoo on New Year's Eve...

and I couldn't wait to show it off!

So I paraded it from Venice to Santa Monica to get my hair done before my friend's wedding.

It was a beautiful sunny day that cast strong shadows.

I adorned my other hand with jewels, so it wouldn't feel jealous.

I made some new friends in the bike lane on the way back to my hotel.

Peace be unto you, brother, and a happy 2012!

SF-ness

The day was Bay to Breakers day, and SF happened to experience some of the most beautiful summer weather in the history of the event. SFers applauded this.

Beautiful weather brings out beautiful people. And if you're going to San Francisco, be sure to put flowers on your bike.

And tattoo your calf muscle with a symbol of peace and love.

little surfer boys

Venice Beach is just too cool for school. I just spent a weekend of non-stop partying in LA (my annual visit), and had the chance to spend Saturday afternoon strolling about the boardwalk.

These two shots tell you all you need to know about the culture of Venice Beach.

If what you seek is a laid back, eclectic, casual, friendly, fun and sunny way of life, look no further. More to come. ;-)

vélo valentine

In honor of Valentine's Day, let us honor not only those couples who cycle together, like this hip tattooed pair scanning the roller disco scene on a recent Sunday in Golden Gate Park, but also all those who love cycling in the city, in the country, in normal street clothes, in fashionable clothes. Writing these posts make me love riding my bike more, and I hope that, in reading them, you do, too.

winter in SF

After visiting Cycle Chic's recent post about subzero temps in Copenhagen, and hearing the news of blizzards back east, I am guiltlessly enjoying near 90 degree Fahrenheit temps in SF. It's like summer in the middle of January. And what better way to enjoy the heat wave, but to ride to the Park to relax in your bikini with your sweetie. I took this shot two days ago near Hippie Hill.

All I can say to the rest of you is that we are very sorry (sort of).

skinny stilettos

San Francisco has apparently not adopted Copenhagen's Style Over Speed cycling manifesto. As I was on my way to the Farmer's Market on Saturday morning, I spotted this woman speeding down Folsom Street listening to her tunes through her earphones, wearing a scarf reminiscent of those worn by either the PLO or Joe Strummer in the Rock the Casbah video, wearing painted on skinny blue jeans, pedaling in her black stilettos, and her arms covered in tattoos. I could hardly keep up with her and tried my best to snap a photo, one hand on my point-and-shoot, the other on my handlebars; one eye on the viewfinder, the other on the traffic lights.

Also, take notice of the fancy red and white checkered style on her bike frame and handlebars.

I was very curious what she was listening to, but didn't have the chance to ask.

springtime skin

I was impressed by her cute retro-platinum hairdo, string of pearls and skinny jeans tucked into brown leather boots, when I noticed her fancy tattoo popping out of her chiffon blouse.

I complimented her on her style and was pleased to see how happy she was to know how fabulous she looked as she cruised through the Panhandle on a Monday evening in Spring!
