Bicycle Music Festival, my story in pictures and 3 parts

I met up with event in Precita Park.

From here, we started the short voyage to Dolores Park. These photos document that voyage. We were all very excited.

As you can see, we had no shortage of Velo Voguers; it was like shooting fish in a barrel.

Ladies riding in skirts and cool bikes abounded.

I do wish fewer people had been riding in flipflops, but I loved that everyone contributed to transporting the equipment.

faire les courses en vélo

I was sipping a glass of Côtes du Rhône at Cafe du Soleil avec Marie-Lyse, when I saw this cyclist zip by carrying a cargo load of groceries. She made riding up Fillmore look not only easy with her front basket and rear pannier but also stylish in a pair of plaid flats. Seeing her running her errands en vélo like that reminded me of all the fantastic merchants in SF who offer discounts to SF Bicycle Coalition members (who arrive on their bikes).

Black Suede Boots

She said: why are you taking my picture?
I replied: because you're biking in black suede boots... for my bike fashion blog.
Her: you better not say anything bad about them.

may your days be merry and bright

I really wish all our morning commutes could be filled with such awe-inspiring color combinations as this woman is wearing. Bright purples, reds and oranges matched with a gorgeous psychedelic print top. The boots look incredibly comfortable, perfect for cycling and walking.

And do you see how happy she is? That's what a little morning exhilaration on your bicycle will do for you!

What does her jacket say?

I love the jacket, skirt, bike and particularly the little flowering plant she's carrying in the basket. What a sweetie.

because I'm sporting the layered look lately!

Me voilà sur mon joli Motobécane en rouge et noir. Vintage tiger print skirt from London, purchased at a $5 sale at a second hand store on Fillmore Street. Alpaca wool 3/4 length fingerless gloves from Peru, fairly traded. Short angora sweater (also second hand) from Crossroads on Haight Street. Bike from Craigslist!

Beach Cruisers

I went to visit my friend Carolyn last month in San Diego. The beach cruisers upset her because they don't wear helmets. I thought this one was beautiful with her white bike and red skirt.

Correspondent GDH submitted these photos a while ago unprocessed and without narrative. They speak for themselves.

xtra fun!

Amid the commuters one weekday morning, this urban mom was out for a morning spin with her kids, wearing flats and skinny jeans. Looks like the little boy is having extra fun on the xtracycle!

The two little ones look like vogueurs in training--he in a skull-patterned hoodie, she in a flowing red and white heart-patterned skirt and pink clogs.

Here's another urban mom with her son wearing a robot t-shirt on a three-wheeled scooter.

That's it! Show by example how fun and safe two-wheeling (or three-wheeling) can be, by cycling in the city with the kiddies!

i love haighters

Here's a lesson on how to turn left while looking incredibly hip in the Lower Haight.

First, dye your hair orange. Then jump into some short shorts and hop on your bike.

To keep your legs and arms warm in case the fog rolls in, slip into some legwarmers and fingerless 3/4 length gloves. Make a left turn signal.

Make sure to look for oncoming traffic when you cross the intersection (also scanning the Wiggle for other cuties en vélo.)

A unique style in a unique part of town. I simply love the Haight!

more reliable than foreign cars

And more economical than foreign oil! And free of any environmental guilt!

This lady on her sky blue vintage bicycle knows that cycling to and from work is the most reliable, frugal, healthy, sustainable, fun and stylish mode of transportation. She's got a great looking ride, complete with matching fenders and chainguard, and she's got a great look with her cream-colored mini-dress, leather moccasins, scarf and glam sunglasses.

Another stylish cyclist paving the way to better urban living!

nifty knits

Striped legwarmers over leggings, and fingerless gloves! Uniquely painted rear basket! Very fantastic and very SF!

Yowza!

No idea where this woman is going in her bikini on the bus with her bike. But I guess... how do they say it? If you've got it, flaunt it? Check out her fancy flip flops.

flower power

Give your pedal pushers some panache with appliqué--in this case, a single white flower.
