Vive La France! La France en 2018!

Hope you all enjoyed the World Cup this time around. Win or lose, it's always good times to watch some world class footie. My team was eliminated in the Quarter Finals, by Germany no less, so I don't feel too bad. We watched the match surrounded by all the Frenchies at Belden Place, the tiny Financial District alley which is home to SF's French Quarter.

Germany has an incredible team and, I'll admit - it was cool to witness Thomas Müller's sick moves on the dance floor as he celebrated their ridiculous win over Brazil.

Nice shorts, dude.

Hope y'all had a great time watching all those hotties on the pitch, like I did!

Bring on 2018! Et ALLEZ LES BLEUS!

Mad Style

I grew up hanging out with advertising executives and creatives in this building.

My dad was the Don Draper of San Francisco. Now my dad is semi-retired and I work directly across from that very building. For decades I felt that I was living in my dad's shadow in this town, until I saw this ad on the building where my dad's rep as THE Ad Man took root.

the his and hers of cycle chic

A couple cyclists in this bunch caught my eye one morning commute (as a matter of fact, hats off to all of them)!
market street fashion

His: Dark denim jeans, plaid cotton shirt, fire engine red socks, polished brown leather dress shoes (and cutie in a hat in front of him).
cute boy red socks

But really, it's all about the socks.

Hers: Flowing, layered skirt in shades of violet with cool helmet and black pumps.

pinstriped beauty

This Downtown Julie Brown has put a twist on the pinstriped suit with these skintight (yowza) pants!

Glam glasses and all, she stops to send an all important text message.

And away she goes!

three cheers!

Obama has made patriotism sexy again. People often tell me that they bet I wouldn't ride around with an American flag on my basket if Bush was still president. Uh... no, probably not. Now, even in crazy anarchist SF, everything's coming up all red, white and blue.

Even bike helmets!

summer look|winter boots

I was behind this cute chyck all the way down Market Street and then again all the way down Sansome Street a couple weeks ago. I couldn't believe the way she was dressed. Everyone else was freezing cold (I think I was bundled up with gloves, scarf and wool coat) and she was wearing rolled up jeans and a cute girly t-shirt. The guy behind her had a totally rad backpack.

She was pretty speedy, and had the awesome Nutcase helmet just for the purpose of zipping around the SF streets.

Finally at a red light I got a chance to check out her fuzzy brown leather winter boots, and those pretty striped socks peeking out from the top.

Otherwise, just looking at her bare arms was giving me the shivers. Hot or cold, she was by all means super-fab.

the push off

I suppose I feel like dedicating posts this week!

Every time I see a chic cyclist pushing off into flight, I think of Mikael, our pal across the pond, who inspired Vélo Vogue to take off into flight by documenting fashion on two wheels here in SF. So, once again, this post is dedicated to Zakkaliciousness, the mac-daddy of Cycle Chic.

And let me add that the more I'm out on my bicycle, the more I see cyclo-fashionistas making bold statements. I want to think that, just as Copenhagen Cycle Chic inspired us, we too are inspiring others!

be bold

What's not to love about this look? Fishnet stockings are always sexy, but pink fishnets are something else! Eye-catching indeed! This color combination deserves an award of some kind - pinks, reds and blues, not to mention the fantastic gold rack and handlebars! Bold colors make a bold statement!

same girl, different day, another great look

First of all, bravo to this woman for wearing white pants while riding her bicycle. I should really do like her and get a chainguard! That one bicycle accessory could influence every wardrobe decision I make!

But I really had my eye on her brown leather wedges. I do believe this style of shoe to be one of the easiest and practical for the ladies to ride in style.

And here she is pushing off. A little ode to Mikael at Copenhagen Cycle Chic and his love for this particular moment.

But wait, I recognize those wedges! Here she is again, looking equally fabulous in a tweed hat, blue dress and brown tights!

un certain regard

I really don't know what to say about her, except that she is stunningly beautiful. I am almost speechless.

If anyone would like to write an additional description, please do so by sending us comments.

one great look

There's fashion and then there's bicycle fashion. Lilia and I have discussed how riding a bicycle often informs what we choose to wear on any given day. Of course, it is our opinion that you can really wear anything on your bicycle, but some outfits simply work better than others. Case in point: I can't get enough of this woman's cappuccino colored pinstriped knickers, with purple halter top and brown leather pumps. And check out her calf muscles!

This is a look that is not only practical for cycling, but more importantly shows off her finest features. And honestly, if you've got it, flaunt it.

downtown girl

This San Francisco woman showing off as much style and elegance as any parisienne in her smart black and white ensemble and pointy high heeled boots.

In my opinion, however, it is much easier to ride in heels than to walk.

it must be summer in SF...

because I'm sporting the layered look lately!

Me voilà sur mon joli Motobécane en rouge et noir. Vintage tiger print skirt from London, purchased at a $5 sale at a second hand store on Fillmore Street. Alpaca wool 3/4 length fingerless gloves from Peru, fairly traded. Short angora sweater (also second hand) from Crossroads on Haight Street. Bike from Craigslist!
